Term Time Leave of Absence
From the 1st September 2013 the DFE amended regulations surrounding holidays in term time. The DFE removed references to family holiday and extended leave as well as the statutory threshold of ten school days. Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances and parents have no entitlement to take their children on holiday during term time.
A child who takes 10 days’ holiday during the academic year can only attain 94.7% attendance. A child who takes 10 days’ holiday in each academic year could lose the equivalent of 22 weeks (almost 6 months - about 2 terms) during their formal school career.
If you would like to request a leave of absence you MUST put this request in writing addressed to the Headteacher.
Please see our Attendance Policy for further information and the City of Sunderland Code of Conduct regarding penalty notices.

We need YOU! Friday 21 June 2019 sees the inaugural Yellow/Sunflower Day, and we are hoping to turn the whole of Sunderland (and beyond) YELLOW. All businesses, schools, community groups and indeed everybody across the region are encouraged to wear yellow to show their support! This is a great opportunity for Ryhope Infant School Academy to get involved and show our support for a local charity. We a hoping to get our pupils involved by asking if they could wear something YELLOW on this day, with donations to the hospice optional. If you would like to send donations, please give it to your child to put in the collection box. This will be a NON-UNIFORM day for the children. St Benedict’s Hospice would also like you to join the conversation across social media by using the hashtags #WearYellow, #YellowDay, and #StBenedictsHospice to share your photos and reasons what St Benedict’s Hospice means to you, your family and the community of Sunderland. Between 12 noon and 2.00pm they will be launching their twitter ‘thunderclap’ where they hope to get trending across the UK with your help
