Coast Project competition winners July 2019
We are proud to say that our children have won another competition!
The Coast Project selected photographs that children had taken with their families relating to our coast. One of our Year 2 children won first prize, a Reception child won third prize and another Year 2 child won a special award. The Coast Ranger came into school to present them with a trophy and a goody bag. The children also received a voucher and a framed version of their winning photo.
Well done girls and to all of the children who took part. We have such talented children at Ryhope Infant School Academy!
Sandcastle Challenge 2019, South Shields
We took a team of 15 children to take part in Children North East Sandcastle Challenge at South Shields. This year's theme was "Build a Better World". We worked with professionals from WSP and talked about our ideas. We decided to create a sand sculpture that showed
- We are the future.
- The world is in our hands.
- We need to all work together as a team to make a difference.
In school the week before the challenge each year group were busy creating pieces to take along to the challenge. We made a globe out of bottle tops (thank you for sending them in!) drew ourselves and made lots of hand prints and signs.
We were all really pleased with our creation on the day. We worked together as a team and helped each other out and had chats with the judges about what we were creating.
We saw some fantastic builds on the plots around us .... there were 126 teams building on the day, ranging from primary right through to college age, so we didn't get to see every one, but the ones that we did see, looked great!

Fire Brigade Visit - 16th March 2018
The children (and staff!) in Reception had a brilliant and informative morning when firefighters from Tyne & Wear Fire Brigade's Community Fire Station at Farringdon visited! Richie, Troy, Shaun and Chris from ‘White watch’ told us all about their job, showed us the equipment that they use and Dennis the fire engine flashed his lights and sounded his horn for us! We look forward to seeing them again!
Fantastic teamwork between the Infant and Junior schools today! We have managed to clear the majority of both the public and staff car parks with the massive help of our community partners, NHS Property Services, to give us the best possible chance of getting back open on Monday. Even Miss Reed and Mrs Skelton were out with their snow shovels. We couldn't have done it without everyone working together as part of a team.
Well done everyone and huge thanks again to NHS Property Services, I am sure you will agree, everyone has done a sterling job.
We hope to see you all on Monday morning, have a lovely weekend everyone!
The children have been enjoying the Christmas festivities in school this week including our performances, Christmas dinner and Christmas jumper day. More photos will be added soon.......
